Hello and welcome back crafty friends! Today I am sharing a holiday card using the die Winter Welcome Sled from Spellbinders! This die is a part of the Celebrate the Season Collection! I immediately fell in love with this die set and love the rustic/antique charm of this die set! You can view the collection here! So let’s get started!
For today’s card I wanted to create a rustic feel as this sled just gives me that feel! I love antiques and this sled reminds me of the “old” sled I place outside my front door during the winter months! I started by die cutting all the pieces using the Wiinter Welcome die set. I used several different colors of card stock for the sled, floral, and the greens. Once everything was die cut I used distress oxide inks to add more depth to my colored card stock. I have included a list of all the inks I used below. Once these were complete I adhered everything together using liquid glue and set them aside.
Next I started to work on my background. I started with a background from my stash. I ran this through my die cutting machine using the Forevergreen embossing folder from Spellbinders. I then added more color and texture by using distress crayons, as well as Spray Stain, and Lindy’s Gang Starburst Sprays. I applied these to my embossed background. The sprays added more depth and rich color. The crayons and pigment ink were applied to the raised evergreen areas. I love the added texture this provides. I allowed the background to dry. Once it was dry, I stressed the edges with my distress tool and scissors and applied archival ink to the edges as well.
Next I chose some ephemera from my stash. I applied Distress Ink to the pieces and then using my sewing machine to “stitch” the ephemera together! I LOVE this look and I am super excited to add sewing to my projects! This was a crafty goal I had this summer! I even added some sewing to my embossed panel once it was dry!
To complete my card, I adhered a piece of pattern paper to my card base. I applied ink to the edges to soften the pattern paper. I then adhered my card panel, ephemera, and sled to my card front. I used liquid glue and foam tape. I then die cut the sentiment Merry Christmas from the die set: Mix & Match Holiday Greetings. I die cut the sentiment 2 times, adhered together with liquid glue, and added distress ink to tie the sentiment together with my card theme. I added a few sequins from my stash for added interest!
