Hello Crafty friends I am super excited to be back today joining the team over at Simon Says Stamp for their Monday Challenge! This week the theme is We’re Going Around in Circles! I had a lot of fun this week and I can’t wait to see all the AMAZING makes! For this week’s theme I used the Mosaic Embossing folder from Sizzix/Tim Holtz as my inspiration! So let’s get started!
I started with a piece of Fabriano Hot Press watercolor paper. I inked up the background using a combination of Distress Oxide Spray, as well as Distress Spray Stains. When inking a background, I always build in layers. I add a bit of color, dry with heat tool, then spritz with water, and pick up color with a paper towel. I continue to repeat this process until my background has the textures and colors I am looking for. I apply the ink using the spray, as well as placing the color on my mat, and using a transparency. On today’s card I used: Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass and Distress Spray Stain in: Antique Linen, Crushed Olive, and Salvaged Patina. I also added Distress Inks in: Peacocks Feathers, Vintage Photo, Speckled Egg, and Antique Linen.
Once my background was complete, I allowed the panel to fully dry. Then I ran the panel through my die cutting machine with the Mosaic Embossing Folder. I just love the texture in this folder and with my colorful background, the texture was just right! I wanted to create even more texture, so I applied Distressed Crackle Paint in translucent to various sections of the embossed panel. I allowed the paste to completely dry, before moving on!
Once the paste was dry, I added Distress Crayons to the textured/crackled areas. This part just made me so happy – it was so fun to see all that texture come through! It looked like old worn cobblestone (at least to me). I applied Distress Crayons in: Walnut Stain and Black Soot. I color directly on the textured areas, then apply a bit of water to my mat and apply the water using my finger (gently rubbing) the crayon. The crayons do all the work!
Next I trimmed the dry embossed panel using my Tim Holtz Deckle Trimmer. I then inked up the edges a bit using my distress tool and distress ink. I adhered the panel to an A2 card base. Next I used the Hi There die to add a sentiment to my card. I trimmed the inner Hi There – 3x from black card stock. I adhered them together using my SSS glue stick. I die cut the shadow layer using velum. I then adhered this to the center of my card. This completes my card for this week’s challenge – We’re Going Around in Circles!
