It’s All About the Layers Unity Stamp Company – Kit of the Month: Happy Soul
Hi Crafty friends! I am super excited to be back today to share a new Unity Stamp Company Membership post using the February Kit of the Month – Happy Soul! I had a lot of fun creating today’s card! I LOVE the Kit of the Month from Unity Stamp Company – each month you will receive an AMAZING monthly kit delivered right to your door full of red rubber stamps! It is an amazing kit – you can find all the details here (Kit of Month Membership details). I have also linked more membership details below, as well as all of the Monthly Memberships from Unity Stamp Company! I know you will love them as much as I do! So let’s get started!
Today’s card is all about the layers! I love to add layers to my cards, as I feel they add so much detail and visual interest! I started by choosing my focal image, the adorable mushroom stamp from this month’s kit! I couldn’t wait to ink this up! I started with a piece of Bristol Smooth card stock. I added distress oxide ink to the panel using my blending tools. I used Antique Linen and Vintage Photo inks. Once I was done ink blending, I added water droplets and used my paper towel to pick up some color. Once completely dry, I stamped the mushroom stamp and then heat set with clear embossing powder. I then colored the stamped image using my Zig Clean Color Brush markers. I work in layers allowing each layer to dry. Once the coloring was complete I distressed the edges using my Tim Holtz Distress paper trimmer, added distress inks, as well as the the texture stamp in various places on the background from this months kit – Happy Soul. I set this aside, it was now time to build the background layers!
Next I started to work on my card panel background. I chose 2 background stamps from Unity – for the bottom layer I used Small Details. I stamped this onto Neenah cardstock and set it aside. The next layer is using the January Background of the Month – Old News. I stamped the Old News background onto Neenah card stock, then heat set with clear embossing powder. I then added distress oxide inks to create more of the vintage vibe. Once the color was complete, I added a few water droplets to add more texture. I trimmed the panel using my Tim Holtz trimmer and then distressed the edges with my scissors, as well as distress inks.
It was time for the last layer. Did you know when you receive the Kit of the Month there is a free gift inside too? This month I used a kraft tag, as well as some pattern paper included in the kit. I adhered the pattern paper to the tag with liquid glue, trimmed the paper down, then lightly sanded the edges. I created a bit of my own ephemera using the A little Bit of Washi Stamp set. I stamped the washi images, then cut them down with my trimmer. I then adhered the wash stamped images to the tag and then sewed them onto the tag with my sewing machine. I die cut a couple hearts from scraps of pattern paper, distressed the edges, and then adhered these using foam tape. I added some moss for added interest using my Tim Holtz stapler.
To complete the card I adhered all the layers together using both liquid glue and foam tape. I completed the card with a sentiment from Wonderful and Simple Things!
