Hello Crafty friends I am super excited to be back today joining the team over at Simon Says Stamp for their Monday Challenge! This week the theme is Transport It. I was super excited about this theme as I was currently trying some of the Fodder Challenge and was inspired by a background I was working on in class. The theme made me think of “back in time” and this is how I interpreted this week’s theme! I hope you like it, let’s get started!
I started by creating my background using a piece of pattern paper from the Tim Holtz Memoranda collection. I trimmed my panel and adhered the pattern paper to a piece of heavy weight white card stock using liquid glue. I then applied a thin layer of white gesso to various parts of the panel using a paint brush. I did not cover the panel, just applied this to random places to add texture and to break up the pattern paper a bit. Once dry, I placed the Tim Holtz layering stencil/ Brush Arch over the top and applied texture paste through the stencil in a few spots. I allowed the paste to dry completely before moving on.
Once the paste was completely dry, I applied Black Acrylic paint and Distress Crayons to the background in various sections. I started by placing a small amount of black acrylic paint on my glass mat, added a little water, mixed it together, then applied it to various places using my paintbrush. I allowed the paint to move by adding more water with my distress water bottle. I allowed this to completely dry, then added more texture and color using a variety of Distress Crayons & Oil Pastels. I continued to add color and texture until I had the layers I was looking for. I set the panel aside to completely dry.
Once the panel was dry, I added stamping to the background using 2 sets from Stampers Anonymous: Ledger Script and Warehouse District. I stamped images using Archival Ink in Jet Black. I then added splatters to the background using white paint, as well as black. I set the panel aside to dry, so I can work on choosing the ephemera for my piece.
Next I looked through my stash of ephemera, unfortunately I have taken most of my ephemera out of their original packages as I have mine sorted into categories for creating (such as: nature, flowers, small numbers, large numbers, journal cards, by color). I have loved having my ephemera this way while creating! I did use a couple pieces from new to me sets: Snapshots (photo), Organic Layers. Once I had all of my elements chosen, I determined the placement and then adhered the layers together using foam tape and liquid glue. On the photo (Snapshot) I added Frosted Crystal to the image and heat set with my heat tool. I love the distress look this gives! I inked up the edges of the panel for more texture using Distress Ink: Black Soot using my distress tool. I then applied Foundry Wax in Statue in a few areas on the background panel for added interest and texture!
I hope you enjoyed today’s project. I had a lot of fun creating this piece!
